Biography

Marie Bardiaux-Vaïente earned her PhD in Contemporary and Political History in 2015. Her doctoral thesis, co-supervised in the field of Legal History, was entitled The History of the Abolition of the Death Penalty in the Six Founding Countries of the European Union.

A comic book writer since 2011, a feminist, and an activist advocating for the universal abolition of the death penalty, she explores her social and political concerns through her writing. Her works include La Guillotine (Eidola), Fille d’Œdipe (6 Pieds sous Terre), the series Les Reines de sang (Delcourt), as well as her role as editor of the collective publication Féministes (Vide Cocagne).

For Glénat, she recounts the life and work of Robert Badinter in L’Abolition before turning her attention to the trial of Adolf Eichmann in L’Enfer est vide, tous les démons sont ici. As part of the Ils ont fait l’Histoire collection, she wrote the script for Talleyrand (2021), followed by Atatürk in 2023 and Jean Monnet in 2025.

In 2024, she collaborated with Gally on Dans les couloirs du Conseil constitutionnel, exploring the inner workings of France's Constitutional Council. That same year, she published Bobigny 1972 with Carole Maurel, a powerful graphic novel revisiting a landmark trial that helped pave the way for the Veil Law, which legalized abortion in France. The book received the High School Students' Award at the 2025 Angoulême International Comics Festival.

Also in 2024, she teamed up with Gaëlle Hersent to publish Calamity Jane as part of the La véritable histoire du Far West collection.

She lives in the Île-de-France region.
